St. Georges Day

This Sunday 27th April is our annual St.George's Day shoot.

St.George, patron saint of England since the fourteenth century was reputedly a Roman soldier beheaded on the 23rd April 303 AD for standing up against the persecution of the Christians by the Roman Emperor, Diocletian.

He is also the patron saint of Archers, so we mark his feast day with a shoot comprising of a St.George round and a Windsor round.

Each round consists of 3 dozen arrows at 100, 80, 60 yards and 60, 50, 40 Yards respectively, with medals being awarded on a handicap basis, so the day will be a bit longer than usual.

Hope to see you all there bright and early.

Picture of St.George was created by the late Barry Shears.
